United Alperton Pentecost Day Celebration
31st May, 2009 Sunday, the Pentecost Day - marking the arrival of God’s gift of the Comforter-The Holy Spirit, the churches in Alperton Wembley enthusiastically joined hands as ‘Alperton United Churches’ to celebrate and proclaim the message of love, peace and healing to the people of Ealing Road, Wembley.
This event commenced at 3:30pm, in form of a Global Payer meeting at St. John’s church, Wembley where worshippers from seven different congregations assembled and prayed over the area of Brent, Wembley and the UK especially for gun and knife crime at skyrocketing rates among the local British youth, current economic turbulence across the world and its effects on the UK and world peace. Followed by this meeting the Pentecost march began, and the ‘United Alperton’ congregation singing, walking and proclaiming the Good News down the streets converged at the open space near old Chequers Pub in a form of an ‘open air gospel meeting’. Choirs of various congregations in turn and together brought enthralling worship songs in Hindi, Urdu, Tamil, Gujarati and English languages.
Rev. Stanley Barker, Pastor of Methodist Church & Rev John Root, Vicar of St James Church, in turn brought brief messages speaking about Christ’s love for the mankind and gift of Holy Spirit being an enabler in the troubled times. Ajay More of the Urdu Fellowship brought the gospel message in Hindi/Urdu speaking about the redemptive power of the risen Christ Jesus. Davidson Solanki from Gujarati Christian Fellowship UK brought the message on concern God has for the whole mankind and His intimate love relationship offer in Christ Jesus to everyone who believes in Him. Pastor Sulekha too brought the message of knowing and experiencing Jesus as a Friend and a Saviour and Davidson effectively interpreted the message in Gujarati.
During the course of this Pentecost Day Celebration - the procession followed by the meeting and messages given, here there were curious onlookers, commuters, shoppers of diverse age, faith, ethnic and professional backgrounds who keenly listened to the message of Christian Love and those touched by the work of the Spirit invited Jesus in their hearts-the ultimate purpose of the whole event wholly fulfilled. Praises and Glory be to God in Christ Jesus-Amen
