Day of Prayer for Haiti - 20th Feb 2010
‘God is love.’ 1 John 4:16

`A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.` John 13:34-36

On 20th February, Saturday, GCFUK dedicated a day long prayer chain for the wounded nation of Haiti commencing 4:30 am until 6pm later dissolving in a prayer meeting until 8pm at Ealing Road Methodist Church hall.

It was a time GCFUK seized an opportunity to dedicate a day of prayer, to come together as a church in one place interceding for the aching heart of God for the wounded nation of Haiti.

Nearly 34 members participated in the day long prayer chain and later in the evening 15 members came together as a church to uphold the wounded nation of Haiti.

At the Gujarati church this prayer day was co-ordinated by Colin Roberts, who in the evening prayer meeting shared a few verses from the Bible reflecting on the plight of people of Haiti and love of God for this nation. Furthermore he, briefed the members with the profile of the country of Haiti, the magnitude of this calamity and the plight of the poor living in the interior areas deprived of all basic human necessities-no food, no shelter, no sewage, no communication.

Later, Heflin Jani also encouraged the members to reflect on God’s mercy that was shown to us in January, 2001, when a series of earthquakes paralysing the state of Gujarat, India. Members reflected, gave thanks to God for His mercy and in one voice agreed to now standby our friends in Haiti in times such as these.

Thereafter, members were encouraged to pray individually and later divided in small groups. It was immensely humbling as all members felt God was choosing them to intercede for this nation on His and this nation’s behalf – before Him to be reconciled to Him. Also members gave thanks to God for the services of aid agencies, prayed for their protection, their local partners to help Haiti get back on its feet for the Glory to God in Jesus alone.

This meeting concluded in sharing and reflecting experiences of interceding for a people, a nation we’ve never known or been to but simply called to share their burdens in prayer. One thing that stood apart was all could comprehend deep down in their beings the importance of praying and sharing each other’s burdens across international borders-knowing we all are one in Christ Jesus.
